We've mentioned Dove's "real women" ads a few times now, but it looks like other places are starting to include women of all shapes and sizes, including magazines geared toward teenage girls. Seventeen, Teen People, CosmoGirl!, and Teen Vogue have begun to include larger-size models in their pages, though the general skinny types still grace the pages as well. Sociologists who have invested much more time and interest in this than I have claim it's a step in the right direction for teaching teenage girls to be happy with their bodies, but it seems to me that bodycentric is still bodycentric. I can think of about a hundred better ways for a teenage girl to spend her time than looking for vindication of her body type in the pages of a magazine.
