Info guru online - Google has Google Video still in its beta mode. I have never used it before until today when I was led from a certain blog to watch Singapore Rebel, the short documentary about Opposition Party member Chee Soon Juan.
The after thoughts are troubling. And I shall not blog about it for fear of being prosecuted, charged with making political comments, or taking sides etc.
But of cos, I'm taking everything with a pinch of salt. The Lees have their viewpoints and I can understand where Dr. Chee is coming from too.
The film was not allowed to be screened locally in theatres, but technology has given us the alternative of viewing it online. Kudos to Google in this aspect.
It's really worth spending 26 mins of your time to engage in some true political thinking as a Singaporean.
Go watch it now.
Singapore Rebel
26 minutes, Singapore
This is the film Singapore’s censorship board doesn’t want people to see. It’s the story of opposition politician Chee Soon Juan, who has been imprisoned twice for championing democratic change in the city state. The censors declared it a “party political film” and it was pulled from April 2005’s Singapore International Film Festival line-up after the director was warned he could face two years in jail if the screening went ahead. Directed by Martyn See.
'Singapore Rebel' has been selected to premiere in two human rights film festivals this month. The inaugural New Zealand Human Rights Film Festival and the Amnesty International Film Festival (USA) will host a series of screenings in Auckland, Wellington and West Hollywood.
Film-maker Martyn See will not attend the festivals. He is now under investigation by the Singapore police for "the making" of 'Singapore Rebel'
